Improving Health in 2018 with a Naturopath!

I know I’ve been quiet over the last couple of months – but with the lead up to Christmas, and end of year school things to sort out, life has been pretty hectic! Add to that some health issues I’ve been having and it feels like I’ve had no time for anything.

I’ve had health issues for quite a while now, and so I decided it was time to get it sorted. I’ve seen doctors over the years to help me with my digestive concerns, but I thought it was time to look elsewhere. That’s when I came across Victoria and her business, Victoria Heath (Naturopath).   If you're looking to improve your health, read my experience with a naturopath and how I'm ready for 2018!

I decided to enlist Victoria’s services to find out the root cause of my health concerns and then work on a solution for them. I went with the Premium Starter Pack, which included the following things:

  • Initial Consultation
  • Follow Up Consultation
  • Testing Day
  • Two phone follow-up consultations
  • Naturopathic physical exam
  • Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis and Report
  • Comprehensive Dietary Analysis & Report
  • A report of findings and recommendations to correct deficiencies

Starting with a Naturopath

I must admit I didn’t entirely know what to expect with a naturopath (my uneducated mind first thinks ‘hippy’ – how wrong I was!!!), but was pleasantly surprised by the process of the initial consultation.

Victoria was kind, empathetic and passionate about working with me to improve my health. I responded immediately to her disposition – she was very knowledgeable and knew what she was talking about, but was able to describe it to me in a way that showed she cared and understood what I was going through (not condescendingly like some doctors, if you know what I mean?!).

She was also very in-depth in the questions she asked to ascertain my main health concerns – which included stress, sleep-deprivation and anxiety on top of physical symptoms. The initial consultation included the completion of several surveys to help her with her data collection, and referrals for blood tests. Victoria completed a naturopathic physical exam, which included iris, hair, tongue, nails and urinalysis, to further enhance her final results of my overall health.

Despite waiting for a range of results and time to read through my responses, Victoria was very knowledgeable and insightful, giving me some easy, actionable, and realistic steps straight away.

About a week after the initial consultation, Victoria booked a follow-up phone call (approximately 10 minutes) to see how I was going with the steps she gave me at the consultation. I loved this accountability (something I desperately need) and her passion to help me with my health – it is definitely infectious and motivated me to look after myself following my appointments with her!

Testing Day

On testing day, Victoria completed a few tests at her office to help round out her report of my overall health and future steps. These tests included a blood pressure check, physical examination and Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA). The BIA checks things such as:

  • Muscle vs fat mass
  • Bone mass
  • Hydration
  • Daily calorie expenditure and BMR
  • Metabolic age

These results were also important for my testing as weight loss was something else I wanted to work on with Victoria.

Overall, the range of consultations and tests took about a month and a half to complete, and also included going to my doctor to get the referrals for blood tests. Despite being a bit of a process to complete the different tests, I found the end reporting and information far outweighed any difficulty in chasing all these things up.

What Victoria Heath’s sessions had to offer

What impressed me most about Victoria’s services was how detailed everything was. She was rigorous in every aspect of testing to ensure she got accurate results about my health, and provided these results in a report for me to take home in my follow-up consultation. She recommended supplements that would help with my deficiencies (damn iron and Vitamin D!), and future steps to work on improving my health, including my sleep, anxiety and stress.

I am looking forward to continuing my appointments with Victoria to improve my health, as I know she has a full picture of where I currently am and where I need to be because she took the time to invest in me. I already feel like I am going the right direction to meeting my short term and long term goals, and can’t wait to see what my health will look like in 2018 thanks to Victoria!
