Our Review of the Platypus Australia Short-Sleeve Swimsuit & Hat:
Design: Maritime Short-Sleeve Swimsuit + Hat
I couldn’t go past the gorgeous Maritime pattern on the Platypus Baby Swimsuit! There’s something about the Maritime theme and a boy that I think is really gorgeous. The light blue, navy, white and red combo works really well in creating a bold, child-friendly print that screams “fun beach day with the family!”. There is a combination of maritime symbols on the front and a striped pattern on the back to create a unique trend for beach outings.
The short-sleeve swimsuit has a zipper that comes halfway down the torso, with a material backing behind it to protect bubs’ chest. It also has buttons on the inside of the legs to allow for ease of changing (including nappy changes!). This outfit is made from a special lycra material that is ultra-chlorine resistant (protecting it from chemicals), breathable and fast drying (what you need at the beach with a crazy toddler), plus it has a UPF rating of 50+ (the best you can get!).
The zipper and buttons on the inside of the legs made putting the swimsuit on extremely easy, which is exactly what you want for an active toddler. The lycra material and short sleeves also helped this process as it was easy to manoeuvre the material around the gangly arms and legs!
The material and UPF50+ rating of the Platypus Australia baby swimsuit is by far its best feature. It is lightweight and quick drying, meaning that we didn’t get endless sand all over the swimsuit as Starfish slowly walked back up the beach (I absolutely HATE sand!!). The quick dry was also very handy for getting Starfish changed at the beach (back into normal clothes) and back into the pram and car. However if I wasn’t worried about the nappy – because I forgot to put a swim nappy on him – I could have left him in the swimsuit to go back into the car because he dried so quickly. The short sleeves for this baby swimsuit also make it a great option for summer, although sun-conscious parents (guilty!) just need to work a little harder on the sunscreen application.
We absolutely loved everything about the Platypus swimsuit – the gorgeous patterns and colours, the lightweight and quick drying Lycra material, and the ease of access for changing Starfish. It was by far one of the best swimsuits I’ve come across – again the only sticking point is having the money for such a purchase. If you can afford this price, it is definitely the way to go!
Stand out Features:
- UPF50+ rating and ultra-chlorine resistant
- Lycra material which is lightweight and quick drying
- Clips for easy nappy changes
- Short sleeves for extra sun protection
- Gorgeous pattern and design
- Price is expensive compared to some of the other swimwear options.
