Time To Rescue This New Mumma!

Most ‘seasoned’ mothers will tell expectant, first-time mums that, “Nothing can prepare you for motherhood”.

In fact, I was told this almost everyday when I was pregnant with Starfish (and usually on repeat by the same serial offenders!).

But, to be fair, it is 1000000% true.

Nothing can prepare you for the endless pooey nappies, constant feedings, and above all, the sleep deprivation that motherhood throws at you.

It is exhausting, and exhilarating, and overwhelming.

We try to ‘prepare’ these first-time mums by telling them what to expect, what they’re in for. I remember reading a message on our staffroom noticeboard for me before my maternity leave that read, “Welcome to the world of no sleep Fiona”.

But despite these best efforts, did I feel more prepared when we had Starfish?

Heck no.

Starting motherhood was hard. And it was brutal. And to top it all off, I had Postnatal Anxiety which just made the whole thing much more intense.

So what got me through those first few weeks and months?

Well, besides an amazing hubby (and a great love for this little thing that has wreaked such havoc on our lives), it was the support of awesome friends, and little “pampers” we could enjoy here or there

Early on, it was friends who would cook meals for us and bring them over. This reminded us to eat. It was even better when our friends brought meals over and then ATE with us because this ensured we actually did eat, instead of just saying we would (as we forgot to meat many meals in those early days).

After this initial newborn stage, it was the little “me time” pampers that got me through. A quick massage here or there. A bath, where hubby would take Starfish and I could READ A BOOK (bliss!). It was enjoying some delicious chocolate and not feeling any guilt about it whatsoever. It was the little things, that in those moments of chaos and mayhem that really helped me as a new mum.

Why The Rescue Mumma Box is Helpful

I love the option of the subscription box for new mums because it is a nice monthly reminder for them to take some time out and focus on themselves (“you can’t drink from an empty cup,” – that’s what I keep being told anyway!). By receiving a gorgeous box of pampering goodies each month, mums can take 5 to enjoy a relaxing bath soak and facial mask, or read a book and enjoy their hot chocolate on a stick (just to re-emphasise, this is seriously DELICIOUS), or to feel stylish with their bracelet while their bub happily chews on it.

Or, if you’re looking for the ultimate gift for a new mum – the subscription box or gift set is the perfect way to help a mother get the time to herself that she needs (and you’ll be sure that’ll REALLY appreciate the “me time” you’re giving her). The Rescue Mumma box is perfect as both a self-bought pamper present or as a gift for a new mum.
