(All items were donated (except the massage voucher) to support a new mum.)
I have had a few different jobs since the end of my schooling life 11 years ago, but NOTHING compares to my life as a mother. If I thought full-time work was hard for the last year and a half, it only slightly prepared me for the intense physical, social, emotional and spiritual strain I would feel as a mum. Of course, it is the most rewarding ‘job’ I’ll ever have. And I’ll never, EVER take it for granted. But it’s tough. No wonder there is a lot of talk about self-care and ‘me time’ when you become a mum.
The hard thing is, it starts to become a bit of an auto-pilot. Mums just do what they have to do. They don’t think much about taking time for themselves or resting, because usually there is one (or more) bubs in your face constantly demanding your attention. It might sound harsh (or maybe untrue for some mums!) to say that we neglect ourselves, but I know in my personal experience this has been the case many times.
That’s why when it comes to self-care for new mums, it is usually the responsibility of partners, family, friends or other mums to encourage self-care when it is needed. For us, we had a beautiful baby girl from our mother’s group who had to undergo major surgery. It was tough on the family, but the gorgeous mum just did what she had to do to help her little girl through. She hasn’t had ANY time to rest or look after herself since her baby was born 5 months ago, and so the mums and I decided it was time she needed some self-care. We decided to put together the ULTIMATE new mum self-care package, and I thought I’d share what we found for her with you all because it was the PERFECT gift for any new mum!
Massage Voucher from ‘Endota Day Spa’
You can never go wrong with a massage voucher. They are relaxing, pleasant, and you get to zone out for 30-60 minutes (or more if you’re lucky!) and not have to think about anyone or anything else. My husband already knows the way to my heart is to buy a massage voucher from my favourite salon, so it is a bit of a staple gift which I love.
Natural Mud Mask from ‘Bare Mud’
Another step in the pampering direction is a gorgeous natural mud mask. I love the ones from Bare Mud as they are natural, vegan and cruelty free. There are two gorgeous styles to choose from: Charcoal and Coconut and Pink Bamboo, both of which include natural ingredients that help reduce blemishes, reinvigorates your skin by removing dead skin cells and other yucky things, and provides a deep cleanse for your skin. Treat your new mumma friend to a full pampering sesh by adding a Bare Mud mask to their gift pack – she’ll love you for life!
Candle from ‘In Season Designs’
What woman doesn’t love a nice scented candle (or at least most ladies I know do anyway)! The perfect addition for a relaxing (bubble?) bath where the mumma can relax, put her feet up and enjoy the warm water and bubbles, maybe with some extra bubbles in hand!
The candles from In Season Design are stunningly handmade and also contain natural (soy) wax. This makes it safe in a house full of kids which is amazing, and the candle I personally have (Summer Sun) smells glorious. Couldn’t recommend these candles highly enough, so make sure to add them to your ultimate new mum self-care package!
Baby Hand-painted Singlets from ‘My Lily-Ann’
As mums, we like to spoil our children. It is something that becomes engrained in us when we have our first child (or even before that, when we find out we’re pregnant). We just want what’s best for our children, and sometimes that includes a bit of spoiling. What better way to spoil your gorgeous kids than with a gorgeous, HANDPAINTED singlet from ‘My Lily-Ann’. Sam, the beautiful mumma behind My Lily-Ann, spends her time making sure these singlets are PERFECT for your little one, and as you can see her designs are stunning!
Women’s Beach Necklaces from ‘Starfish Creations’
Not to blow my own trumpet, but I also included a couple of my Starfish Creations necklace designs. They are great for helping a new mum feel glamorous (especially in those early days when you’re feeling anything but), and they’re a great accessory to style up any outfit. PLUS, they have the added bonus of entertaining bub while you feed or carry them around – win/win for sure!
How was it received?
Our lovely mum friend who received this gift package was over the moon and thoroughly touched by the generosity of the businesses and our mother’s group. She told me that she couldn’t believe the amazing selection and most importantly, the high quality of all of the products. So for her, this gift package was a winner! Hope you enjoy your relaxing and pampering sesh lovely!
