Hump-Day Hype! The week of tiredness

Hump Day Hype! Week 1

This week I have felt permanently tired. The kind of tired that you feel like you’ll never escape from; never wake up from (ha!). AND it doesn’t have anything to do with my 6 month old – I’m extremely fortunate to have a boy who sleeps through the night (or self-settles if he wakes). I’ve recently been having health issues that I’m being tested for, and my anxiety seems to have amped up a notch at bed time, making it extremely difficult to sleep. Not sure what’s going on, but it’s messed up.

So I have officially dubbed this week, ‘the week of tiredness’. You see, this week is the start of something NEW and EXCITING (I know, I know, I always say that – but its true!). I’m starting up an exciting new blog link with Suzy from In the Lyons Den. We’re teaming up to get over HUMP DAY (aka Wednesdays if for some strange reason you are unfamiliar with this term!). We are going to share the link-up each Wednesday where you can read (and share) some blog posts to get you through the hump in the week. You’re going to laugh/cry and be inspired to make it to the weekend!

On Hump-Day Hype! (Wednesdays), I’m going to share my theme of the week and how I’m going to survive it (or perhaps celebrate it?). So this week, is the week of tiredness. How am I going to survive?

1. Caffeine!Hump Day Hype 1! Week 1

I know tea doesn’t have nearly as much caffeine as coffee, but it does well for me (and I do tea well by having at least 5 cups a day!). I did a walk to the servo at 7.30am to get some milk because we ran out two days ago, and I’ve been so exhausted that I couldn’t be bothered getting more. Until today – Hump-Day! Time to get motivated and get through the week. So I have my first tea of the day next to me and ready to go!

2. Writing

While writing may not be everyone’s cup of tea (haha! I’m on fire this morning!), I find it extremely enjoyable, inspiring and, well, relaxing! I am aiming to spend a lot of today just writing, and worrying about the mechanics/formatting/promoting/emails later. If I can write today, it’ll get me through the rest of the week (and hope my son has good naps today so I can do this!)

3. Spend time with my Starfish

Saving the best till last (obviously!) – spending time with my gorgeous son. While this may not necessarily help with ‘tiredness’, it’ll certainly help with ‘happy’ and ‘inspired’. That kid always inspires me to be a better mum, and helps me get through the week to the weekend when we can share some quality family time together.

So there’s the 3 ways I’m going to combat tiredness this hump day. What about you? How do you combat tiredness? Comment below! And join up with our very FIRST link-up here!

  1. Hi! Love this post and opportunity to link up! As far as being perma-tired, I feel you! If I can get eight hours of sleep pretty consistently, that’s the best…but also difficult on a regular basis…so, again, I’m with you…caffeine is my next method of attack!

    • Haha perma-tired! I’ll definitely be borrowing that phrase 😉 My son fortunately gets plenty of rest too, I just struggle… I think I have too many things on my mind! I’ll just up my dosage of caffeine… haha. Thanks for joining us for Hump-Day Hype!

      • Do you drink caffeine late in the day?? Could that be what keeps you awake? Have you ever tried drinking milk before bed? A friend told me to try that a few years ago when I couldn’t sleep and it worked for me…I was drinking Benadryl from the bottle before that!! 😆😆😆

        • Only tea usually, not so much anything else. Although I’ve heard that there’s a link between caffeine and anxiety, which is what I’m struggling with before bed. I might cut down on my caffeine in general and see if that helps. Plus I’ll try the glass of milk idea, sounds like a nice way to go to bed (and a cookie?? Haha) 😂

  2. Hi Fi! So excited to join your linky!!! Thanks for making this with Suzy as linkies are fun! I tried embedding the button on my blog but it was broken. I hope that could get sorted soon. Love you mummies! xx

    • Hey Jacq! So great you could join us, I absolutely LOVED your review of the “Toby the Teddy” book! I’ll definitely look at fixing the button, thanks for letting me know!! I’ll let you know once its fixed! Love ya too mumma! xx

  3. I would have to agree that today I have hit the tired zone too! My work roster has changed this year so I am normally off Wednesday so I currently think it’s Thursday but it isn’t!! Lots of caffeine for me too this week! So looking forward to this link up. I know it is going to be lots of fun!!!

    • Oh dear, it’s the worst when the days feel later in the week then they actually are, my husband and I complain about this all the time. LOTS of caffeine!
      I can’t wait – so much fun already 😊

    • I’m so glad it’s not just me – Playtime is key too! I just went to buy Starfish a new walker/activity centre for more play time (although there’s an issue with it… isn’t there always?!)
      I’m okay otherwise, thanks lovely 🙂 x

  4. Love this! I definitely agree, I am a tea drinker too so I need that every morning. When I’m exhausted tired I’ll just have a chill day at home with Zoe, watch some TV, and if I really need it I’ll snuggle with her in bed and take nap time together.

    • I love the chill time with bub, so nice isn’t it? I wish my boy would snuggle in bed with me – I’ve tried but he thinks it’s too exciting and playtime! Haha

  5. Oh another person with a 6 month old! My little girl is a good sleeper too, but like you, I can’t figure out why I’m so damn exhausted. Actually, maybe because I have a habit of taking on lots of things including another business on top of my freelancing work. I think I need to take something for CRAZINESS! lol. I hope your tiredness disappears soon and you get the back your pep.

    • Aww yay 6 month old twins! I am 100% the same – I do sooooo much, I really need to cut back but it can be so hard to!
Thank you – good luck with everything you’re doing! (I love the Knotlace biz, joining the giveaway now!)

    • Thank you so much lovely! It must be a mum thing, all the things we have to do!
Getting the results at the doctors tomorrow so fingers crossed 😊

    • I love chai lattes too! Soooo good. Thank you, it definitely has! Hope you’ve found some motivation and encouragement to get through the week as well 🙂

    • Thank you 😊 it has definitely motivated me to power through the rest of the week! Thanks for sharing 😁

  6. I feel you so much. I’ve been exhausted this week too (went to bed at 8 pm last night) and it just seems never ending. I’m also starting to feel the post holiday winter blues. I’ve been so busy that it took a while to catch up with me but it’s here! Yay! Hope we can all get out of the slump and know the rest of this week out of the park. Oh and caffeine 😭 Caffeine and anxiety don’t mix- at least not for me. I had to switch to decaf and I hate that because it’s pretty much poison but oh how I need my warm drink- it takes me to a happy place!

    • Aww hopefully the post holiday winter blues will go soon 😞😫 it’s so hard when you’re so busy, it’s like a vicious cycle that just doesn’t quit – I got about 4 hours sleep last night after I finished my work, finally relaxed to get to sleep, and then have my 6 month old wake up at 4.30 😞
And I’ve heard that caffeine and anxiety don’t mix, so I’m going to ask my doctor tomorrow.

  7. Love the link-up! 💜 My best tip to combat tiredness is a quick nap, emphasis on the quick. I find about 30 minutes enough to refresh me to keep me going but not so much that I can’ sleep come bedtime.

    • That’s a great idea! I have the problem of going for a nap and having a long one which makes me feel more tired! I’ll try some power naps during my son’s nap times 😊 thanks for joining us in the link up! ❤️

  8. I’m really not happy about this health thing and so happy that your cutie pie is sleeping through the night. Thank God for small favours, and I am hoping for a big one soon in the form of resolved health issues… Good luck, and here is hoping for a “Omg I’m doin great” post sooner rather than later 😀

  9. Thank you for this great innovative idea. I hope you are back on track soon. Never aim for being a super mum, always try to be the best you can that day – knowing some days will be better than others. <3

    • Thanks Yvonne! I am learning this lesson gradually! I’m aiming to be the best mum I can be, and prioritising my family (and health) first. Been having a good couple of with my son, despite being unwell and unproductive. Hopefully I can get on track for a nice balance of both 🙂 Thanks for linking up 🙂 Can’t wait to read your post this evening! xx

    • Aww I saw, I hope your little man feels better soon and the teething finishes soon too. Our little man cut his first tooth yesterday too 🙁 Definitely hope you get some rest soon as well!

    • Aww that’s no good! 😞 Hope you can get it sorted or soon! I’m also iron deficient. Not quite anaemic, but apparently pretty close and well on my way there – so could explain the tiredness too. I’m on supplements to try and fix it.

    • We’re so excited to have you! I’m about to head over now and read your Breastfeeding journey, I can’t wait!

  10. I know what you mean about feel tired all the time! I think all mums can relate. Thanks for the link up and I hope you get some rest soon.

    • Yeah I thought I wouldn’t be alone in that boat 🙂 Thanks for joining us, can’t wait to read your story!
