Hump-Day Hype: The Fed-Up Week

This week, I was just fed-up. I was over the week, I was over day-to-day living, I was over lack of sleep and I was a little over life (but not too much – no need to start worrying!). Since my Balanced Babes Retreat a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been trying REALLY hard to work through my stressors and balance my life overall (particularly between blogging work and family life). But this past week, I was just over it. I started getting really angry over trivial issues. I would work myself up into such a state that I couldn’t think properly. I knew then that I was fed-up, and I had to try and get back on track. But, as always, that was easier said than done. So how am I TRYING to get over my fed-up week? I’m trying to implement the following (Sometimes failing, sometimes succeeding) to get me through:

1. Motivational Quotes

Since the last time I was on struggle street and got the support of my lovely Mumma Morrison community HERE, I’ve printed out a bunch of quotes and stuck them on my office wall to get me going. At the moment, my favourite is still from the lovely Shannon (Balanced Babes Retreat or BBR from now on!) – “We need to be the best versions of ourselves in order to be the best mums we can be”. I try to remember that each day, that I need to take care of myself (harder some days than others…)

2. A good cup of tea (or wine if I drank it!)

Unfortunately I’m not a wine drinker, and not much of a coffee drinker (although I will be having a lot of these Vegan Vanilla Iced Lattes, I’m sure of it!), so I need to constantly inhale hot cups of tea. It helps me take a moment to breathe…..

3. Good company

When I get fed-up, I kind of curl up into my little hermit shell and want to just avoid everything and everyone for a while. However, I know that that isn’t what I actually need – I need to get out, socialise, and remember the sunshine and rainbows and unicorns. So I’ve been making an effort to get out and about – Starfish and I even went and saw the Wiggles yesterday!

4. Sleep

Unfortunately I haven’t gotten as much sleep this week as I’d like (or that I NEED) due to working late at night, or random nights where Starfish will wake up during the middle of the night. I don’t deal well with lack of sleep, so I know I need to get more of it. Something that also impacts my sleep (and I’m real bad at it too) is using my phone in bed just before I go to sleep – it stimulates my brain too much and makes it more difficult for me to fall asleep – so, this week I am making more of an effort to not use my phone before bed, and certainly not doing work in bed, at night, before sleep time!

5. Breathe

It sounds so simple, and yet how often do we actually do it? Since the BBR, I’ve been trying really hard to pause and breathe before I react to anything. Gosh it is hard – have you actually tried doing it?? I’m constantly working on it, but I’m slooooooowly making ground with it I think (except for my back slide this week – oops!).

6. Colouring In

I’ve added this in (Friday, 24th March) because I can’t believe I forgot it! I’ve been fortunate enough to receive an AMAZING colouring book from Sarah Renae Clark (review to come next week + special treat!). It has really helped me to calm down and unwind, and even hubby has seen how beneficial it has been for me.

Week #7’s Featured Post

My choice of Featured post for this week is Curry’s “To the Mother who feels like she’s drowning“. This post is so poignant, and yet so relatable to so many mums (including me). The issues raised in this post – such as mum guilt and daily struggle – are normal for mums. Thank you for opening up with such raw honesty so that we can move past the ‘taboo’ nature of these topics and open up a space for mums to work through these feelings and to come together in love and support.

    • Oh dear, that’s no good. I hope your week was gotten much better as it gets closer to the weekend (thank goodness it is Friday!). They sound like great ways to unwind, I’ve been meaning to get more into Yoga.

  1. Thanks for sharing! I have been so bad about working in bed too! I want to go to bed when my husband does but I always still have work to do on my blog so I just do it in bed and end up staying up until all hours of the night! Thanks for hosting the Link up too!!

    • That’s exactly me! And then I also struggle getting to sleep afterwards because my brain is so awake and constantly thinking about everything! We have to find a better way of doing things I think haha! Thank you for joining us 🙂
